Jackie is a huge fan. She had a powerful voice.

And was very easy to watch. I've forgotten why she died so young, but seem to recall (before going to check) that it didn't have anything to do with wretched excess...

I always think this is the theme song for the movie GLORIA but I don't think it is. Must check.

Looks like no...though used in FLASHDANCE, that inane thing.

Yeah, the score is by Bill Conti. One of my favorite movies.

She died of a previously undiagnosed cerebral aneurysm.

I'm with Bill on Laura Branigan! She's a favorite of mine and unjustly forgotten.

Wow, I'd forgotten all about her. She had a great voice. Thanks for the video, Patti.

1982 was the year I turned 19 and to me that's a rather peculiar era musicwise since there were loads of songs I heard then and didn't care for but has stuck in my mind ever since. Like this one. If you had played it to me yesterday I wouldn't have had the foggiest who sang it, but I would have been able to hum along to it without hesitation. Weird.

So true for me to, Anders. The songs stay there because there is a tune to anchor it. But the names, they disappear.

What's odder perhaps is that I feel the same way about the songs of the 1960's. Play a song I haven't heard in 45 years and every lyric will pop into my head. Granted, songs that were hits then were played over and over again, but still...

I get both eras for me. First I played the 45s to death in the sixties and then I listening to my kids play their music in the 80s-90s.

About remembering tunes without remembering the artist, this is true for me basically only for songs from the 1970s and 1980s. I was born in 1963 so you can do the math and it is then probably not so surprising. I guess it is about which age you are.

On a related note, I recently came across "Pandora's Box" a 1975 track by Procol Harum. I immediately recognized it, yet I have no recollection at all of hearing it back then. A weird sensation! Pretty good tune, too.
