Bouchercon

1) Anyone out there ride motorcycles and know the jargon?

2. I am looking over the panels and thinking yes, yes, yes. But they are all at the same time!!

If you are going, who do you want to hear? If not, what writer has most impressed you in the past at a reading or conference.

The funniest fellow I ever was lucky enough to hear was Mark Billingham. A panel with John Connelly and Billingham was just amazing. Those Brits really value wit and practice it. And they know enough to limit the "me's" to just a few.

I have seen a few too many panel hogs in years past.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE if you are there, come find me. I am too shy to approach people. Not just famous people but anyone.

Patti, can't help pointing this out - John Connolly is not a brit, he's Irish. He is as you say very good value for money as a speaker. Almost stand-up comedy. Hope you enjoy Bouchercon. Would love to be there, but it's the start of term and as head of dept I have to be around.

I'll look out for you, patti. This will be my first time and I'm looking forward to it. Not only for the authors (especially Robert Crais as one of the guests of honor), but for the bloggers that have grown to be my online comrades (most I haven't met in person). Thanks.

You bet I would come and find you if I were there, Patti.

Enjoy, and bring back some good stories :)

I think Billingham did do standup at one time. He certainly has the timing and delivery.

Previous authors who have entertained: Jim Swain in Vegas talking about casino scams. I bet he sold a lot of books that day. Val McDermid & Ian Rankin interviewing each other. The late Tony Hillerman's hilarious stories. Joe Lansdale.

We'll see you there on Thursday, Patti, or Wednesday night if you're around when we get there.

Patti,
What fun! You have a great time, and we'll look forward to stories and pictures.

p.s. had to laugh - if I were going, we could eye each other, saying "Do I know her? Should I? Oh, no, really..." Bwhaha, have fun Patti.

I'm hoping that this time, we can do more than simply say "hi" to each other as we pass on a pedestrian bridge--which is what I recall happening at Bouchercon in Baltimore.

I shall certainly keep my eyes open for you!

Cheers,
Jeff

Patti, I know how you feel. I went to my first B'con last year in San Franciso and was grateful for the fact that a few good friends were there.

Some great writer/speakers: James Lee Burke, Sue Grafton, Dennis Lehane--who's very funny and totally unpretentious.

Thanks all. I will be at the registration table on Thursday afternoon. And I would love to have coffee, a drink, or whatever with all of you. Get in Thursday morning.

I think Val McDermid may be the funniest Brit out there, if you have a chance, go to a panel or interview with her. Wish I was going to be there, but it's a fer piece and we're needed here to oversee the yard makeover.

Haven't owned or ridden a motorcycle since about 1970, so I can't help ya there.

Have fun ! ! !

I heard her once on a panel with Megan. She was dynamic.

Up until a couple of years ago I rode motorcycles and hung out with a lot of bikers. The wrecks made me give it up.

Call me as soon as you don't see a friendly face! Or sooner.

I was looking for someone to run a story by and someone kindly volunteered. Thanks!
